Is scalping realistic for retail traders with high spreads?

I want to scalp the M1 and M5 charts but my spread looks big compared with my targets.

It can work, but costs decide everything. If you aim for 5 pips and the spread plus commission is 1.5 pips, a third of your target is gone before you start. Work out your break-even in pips first.

Scalpers usually need low spreads (an ECN or raw spread account), fast execution and a stable connection. Trade the most liquid hours and pairs.

Many beginners find that a slightly higher timeframe, like M15 or H1, gives them more room and less stress.
