What should I record in a trading journal?

I want to start a journal but I do not know what details are worth writing down.

Keep it simple so you actually use it:

  • Date, pair and direction
  • Setup name and the reason for the trade
  • Entry, stop loss, take profit and position size
  • Result in money and in R (risk units)
  • A screenshot before and after
  • How you felt, and whether you followed your plan

Review it every week. Look for patterns: the setups that make money, the times of day you lose, and the mistakes that repeat.
